Today we leave for Calais. The alarm clock went off just before 5 and I hauled myself out of bed to try and ensure I could sort out everything I needed to take and pack the volvo without being late for work. Packing too surprisingly long. Its amazing just how small the boot space on a Volvo 440 is. Something bigger next year methinks! Still, somehow managed to get it all in. Mike and Si turned up at Canary Wharf just gone 1pm to pick me up. It turned out the car had already suffered it's first "minor incident" in the hands of Mike. Namely, he'd driven it into the big bins at my place accidently. Oh well as long as this isn't a sign of things to come.

We were booked on the 6:30pm EuroTunnel, but arrived at Folkestone a little after 3pm. Fortunately we were allowed on the earlier 16:03 train so that all worked out very nicely. It was my first time through the tunnel and I must admit the 20 minute crossing absoltely flew by and we were in Calais before I knew it. Having checked in at our hotel which was surprisingly painless to find it was off to find the registration point.

Having forgotten to make a note of where the designated meeting place was, we drove around somewhat randomly checking out the local hotels in the search of other competitors. Having found several suspect looking vehicles in the carpark of the local "Hotel Etap" we tracked down the official registration point and having completed all the formalities, promptly headed off to the pub :)

Let the challenge begin!
